Books in 2018

Hello everyone and holiday greetings to all of you!

It's that time of the year where I share my list of books read, to be joyous and to be disappointed, sadly. Earlier I'd listed books in the year of 2017. This year hasn't been a remarkable one with respect to novel reading. Following are the books I read in 2018:
  1. Blade
  2. Still Alice
  3. The girl who played with fire
  4. The girl who kicked the hornet's nest
  5. Disobedience 
  6. Boardwalk Empire - the birth, high times and corruption of Atlantic city
  7. The Girl on the train

I'm of-course disappointed with the number of books read this year and with the content I'd read in these books. I didn't really enjoy these books save one or two. I wish to improve on both these in the upcoming year.

Inferno - worth a read?

After a sabbatical, I returned to my maneuver of losing myself into novel(s). This time, I picked the much talked and rated as one of the best sellers of year 2013, Inferno by Dan Brown. The novel is 5 th by author. I missed The Lost Symbol , shall get it soon though. Without losing your attention, I will take you through my experience of it. If you have read other works of Brown, then you would be familiar of his art of gluing you with small intricacies of art and designs. He never refrains from going into the minutest detail of culture,  history, and of course architecture. If you had enjoyed his previous books, this is definitely a go-go for you then. Wait, read the next paragraphs. Book again revolves and begins with Robert Langdon. This time he wakes up in Florence, Italy, with a wound on the back of his head. Suffering from amnesia, story kick starts. One sign leading to other and the chain-reaction continues. I was thrilled by the way it is tailored, simply absorbing.

Standing in snow

It was snowing in morning. Light snow flakes, ones hampering your visibility, intermittently falling on eyelashes, melting on eye-glasses. The chills weren't there, it was cold. Such mornings make my knees go weak. It's not the work, or routine, it's the moment I want to sit in my room, gaze outside, see the town get coated in white dust. I get overwhelmed by these moments. Rush to work, lines on the forehead, thoughts in the subconscious mind fade away. It was similar to stomping my heart for something I cared less. I breathed in the cold air, stood in the snow at station close to office, smiled and braced self for the day ahead.

Around DC

Since the beginning of this year I immersed self in reading. One of the reasons was to surpass my last year's book tally and also, to read the vast number of classics available through library at my institution. In this effort I got engrossed and detached with outer world. There were few places in DC I'd wanted to go and would love to visit again and again.  Breaking the monotony I visited Library of Congress and Capitol Hill. I started my day at Library of Congress (LOC). I joined on time to get first tour. In there, personnel would took us through one of the rare collections of Bible, their manufacturing contents, the temperatures these treasures are maintained at. Over the tour you'd get to know meanings of different symbolisms in architecture - how sculptures are looking in a certain direction, various other props.
