Anecdotes from National Monument

There is always a lurking thought in mind to reach certain height. For few it may be top level in firm, or stardom, or financial stability, or getting along with physical, or mental disability. And as and when these milestones are achieved, bar is raised to another level and endeavors start pouring in respective direction. Perhaps, that is how one keeps on striving and get the going?

This post of mine doesn't cover any such aspect of life but is about my recent trip inside the Washington Monument. I had booked ticket 1.5-2 months online prior to my visit. I wanted to reach there before dusk hours but at the same time not in DC heat. Keeping everything in check I planned it for August 5, Friday evening. The weather was really nice by the time I entered monument and it got beautiful by exit hours.
Elevator takes you to the top. You can spend any amount of time until closing. Upon reaching there you will notice big red blinking lights present, which are visible from any part of DC. To avoid black marks or erosion National Parks have covered walls with glass. East, West, North and South each direction will give one of the most spectacular views. Elliptical garden near White House, DC ferry wheel, the tidal basin, Capitol Hill to name a few. One of the phenomenal views is of Reflecting pool, World War II. As evening progresses view starts getting remarkable. The lights, water fountain all give one of the finest serene views from the top.
People were scrambling for selfie or photos but due to limitations none of them were good or was they had wanted. Fortunately, it wasn't crowded which allowed me to see each direction twice before sunset and after sunset. They have an exhibition at the floor where you get to hop into the elevator to return. I read and loved going through it. They had covered Monument's rich history of stones, construction, issues how they dealt with earth quake or lightening or renovation among others. Isn't it amazing to read and go through parts of history in chronological way and see how things fell, handled back in that time? Simply superb.!

Elevator has glass-wall filled with steam, the ranger will defog the walls and stop in between to show stones belonging to different states - Baltimore, New York. They announce it prior stopping and mere 5-8 seconds elevator is stopped. First time, I had been into such elevator and was amazed how steam was used.

For me going to this place was in mind all summer. I had been looking forward to it since quite a long time. It was definitely worth waiting and visiting one of the first tallest building of the history.!
